Health and Safety Award Win for Midas
Bristol based Midas Group re-emphasised its outstanding record on Health & Safety by winning the specialist category award in the South West Built Environment Awards 2010.
Organised by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and Constructing Excellence South West, these awards are a celebration of good practice across construction and within the region and winning demonstrates that Midas is delivering industry leading performance.
The judges looked for the project or organisation where health and safety has been driven forward to go beyond what is required; evidence that best practice has been utilised.
The Group has won the RoSPA Gold Medal for the eighth successive year and remains in the UK Contractors Group's Top Four companies for its consistently negligible Accident Frequency Ratio. Last year Midas Group achieved an Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) of 0.14 which was one of the best results of all the members of the UK Contractors Group, the Construction Industry ‘Lead body'.
Health & Safety Director John Cottington commented: "Health & Safety is about working as a team and changing people's mindsets. Our aim has not been to reduce health & safety risks by a regime of regulation and prescriptive practices but by helping people to understand what they can do for themselves and for their work colleagues. Pride in responsibility and respect for each other are integral parts of this process."
