Exeter Cricket Club move into new pavilion
Exeter Cricket Club has taken over its new Pavilion, built by Midas Construction, and Club Chairman Bob Price is delighted. He commented: ‘’Luckily for us we were sitting on a site that is ideal for student accommodation, which has enabled us to benefit from these fantastic new facilities and preserved the ground for future generations. The development is a perfect example of the benefits that the University brings to the City, because without the University and the spending power of the students our club would have folded. Now we feel we can go from strength to strength.’’
The icing on the cake is the construction of new nets which will be ready for the forthcoming season. These were made possible through a grant from Sport England, together with a very generous anonymous donation from the parent of a junior member, and support from builders Midas Construction and Curlew Capital, who will own and manage the student accommodation.
The Club runs three adult weekend teams, a midweek XI and a twenty/twenty team. The junior section is exceptionally busy with around 100 boys and girls at 5 age levels. Youth training sessions, well attended by parents as well as the youngsters, are held every Friday evening through the summer months.
‘’Devon will be playing a three day Minor Counties match at the ground at the end of July together with at least one 1 day match. There is even talk of holding women’s cricket matches at representative level at the County Ground so we are very excited about the future’’ commented Price.
The Club hopes that its enviable new facilities will attract interest from new players of all ages and abilities, as well as from those interested in coaching, helping out on match days, or from spectators who are interested in watching some quality cricket in magnificent surroundings.
