Award-winning performances from PCH Developments and Mi-space
Hosted by Plymouth City Council once every three years, the Abercrombie Awards celebrate the role of groups, architects, designers and companies in shaping the city.
Named after the architect responsible for the plan to rebuild Plymouth after the Blitz, these awards take a look at a huge range of work from small conversions and projects to transform open spaces to multi-million pound housing or business projects.
PCH and Mi-space's Passivhaus development at Primrose Park, picked up the Best New Building award for the highly innovative homes, which meet the world’s leading low-energy building standard and is the largest of its kind in the UK.
Primrose Park also picked up a Commended award in the new category of Best Response to the Climate Emergency as the homes demonstrated their excellent thermal performance, making energy bills extremely low and reducing carbon emissions required to heat homes.
The evening was capped with PCH winning the Judge’s Special Award for the mammoth recladding project undertaken at the Mount Wise Towers in Devonport, also delivered by Mi-space. The £14.5M project has seen the three 15-storey high-rise buildings completely rendered in the highest fire-safety rated External Wall Insulation (EWI) and given a striking new shade of their traditional colours of green, red and blue.
After a hugely successful evening, Nick Jackson, Director of Business Services and Development said: “This is a great achievement for PCH, and we’re pleased that our projects have been recognised as hugely influential in the city. These awards are voted for by the public, so to be recognised by the people of Plymouth is an honour. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our residents, staff and partners who have all helped us to achieve this. All three schemes reflect our values of showing respect, caring, listening and doing the right thing.
“We will continue to listen and respond to residents and partners to deliver top quality housing services and improve lives by providing affordable homes and supporting communities.”
