Midas promotes Bristol manager to oversee the region

Bristol-born Jamie Harwood has been promoted to become Operational Director for Midas Construction's Wessex and Wales division just five months after joining the company.

The Midas Group, one of the largest independent construction companies in the South West, recruited Jamie as an Operational Manager in November 2013.

After successfully managing multi-million pound projects for the Wessex and Wales division of Midas, Jamie was promoted to become Operational Director of the entire division, which is carrying out building projects in the area totalling £70million this year.

Jamie, aged 39, will oversee four Operational Managers and take responsibility for major developments Midas is leading throughout the region. These include a £16million student accommodation facility in Bristol, a new £10million Campus Building in Corsham for Wiltshire Council, and a £7.5million office refurbishment in Bristol city centre.

Jamie Harwood is also managing the much-anticipated new Filwood Green Business Park being created in Knowle to kick-start Bristol's status as European Green Capital in 2015.  Work on the £11.6 million flagship scheme started earlier this year, and has already attracted international attention as one of the most environmentally friendly new building projects in Europe.

Jamie Harwood said: "I'm delighted to take up the post of Operational Director for Midas Construction. I know the area very well having grown up here and worked locally in construction for many years, and I'm really enjoying working for Midas on some major developments which will really benefit the region."

Jamie Harwood took up his new post as Operational Director on April 1st. Prior to joining The Midas Group, Jamie worked in the Bristol area as a Projects Director for Cowlin, which was later acquired by Balfour Beatty.

Jamie was with the firm for 16 years having joined the company as a graduate trainee in 1998 after graduating from the University of the West of England in Bristol with a degree in construction management.

Derek Quinn, Divisional Director for Midas Construction in Wessex and Wales, said: "Jamie has quickly proven himself to be an exceptional manager and has an excellent track record which will enable us to continue delivering industry leading performance and customer service throughout the region.

"We are very happy he will now be directly overseeing the main developments we are leading in the region in his new appointment as Operational Director."
