Colin Muller joins Midas as head of procurement and supply chain

Midas Group, one of the largest independent construction companies in the South West, has appointed Colin Muller as head of procurement and supply chain, with the specific aim of cementing long-term relationships with current and potential suppliers and sub-contractors.

Colin joins the Midas Group from Cowlin where he was Chief Buyer/Head of Procurement for 13 years. The new position is a significant move for Midas as the company continues to grow.

Colin will concentrate on developing the businesses relationships within the supply chain for Midas.

Colin Muller head of procurement and supply chain at the Midas Group said: "My role within Midas is to ensure that we continue to deliver a consistent, exceptional service, now and into the future. Good customer service is an integral part of our business plan because it results in repeat business - at the moment, more than 70 per cent of our contracts result from repeat business with existing customers. With the economy on the up, skills and labour are already being stretched, we are taking the right steps to ensure that the challenges in the industry are being managed effectively."

Alan Hope, chief executive of the Midas Group said: "All the indications suggest that the construction industry will find it harder to secure well skilled, local labour and good sub-contractors as the economy continues to pick up. In fact we are already seeing a tightening in the market in all the areas that we cover.

"As a business which prides itself on outstanding customer service and industry leading performance we're acting now to protect and enhance our supply chain. We want to ensure that we have the best specialist sub-contractors, access to the best materials and a watertight procurement process which as far as possible seeks to retain the benefit of contract spend and job creation within the region."

The Group's success has been made possible because of Midas's continual focus on staff development and achieving industry-leading customer service. Midas currently enjoy over 83 per cent customer satisfaction at completion - leading to more than 70 per cent of new projects coming from existing customers.

Midas has delivered a number of noteworthy projects across the region in 2012/2013, including one of the largest commercial office developments built outside London, the £25million flagship John Lewis store in Exeter which won a national award for its design approach, and an exceptionally eco-friendly supermarket in South Gloucestershire for Waitrose, a long-standing client.
