Work starts on new Friary Retail Park unit
A turf cutting ceremony to mark new building work at Friary Retail Park on Exeter Street, Plymouth took place on Thursday 29th November.
The 28-week contract on behalf of private investors involves a new extension and subdivision of an existing retail warehouse and the building of a new retail independent unit. Work is scheduled to complete in May 2013.
Midas Construction Divisional Director, Mike O'Neill said: "In simple terms we are removing the façade of the existing unit and extending it to the side to create three separate retail units.
"The challenge of the project is that Friary Retail Park is a busy shopping facility and must be kept open and operational so we will be drawing upon Midas' long experience of minimising day to day disruption on sites where there is a lot of traffic and pedestrian movement.
"Friary Retail Park is an important part of Plymouth's retail offering. It is akin to out of town shopping with plenty of parking but is, in fact, close to the city centre and has a number of prestige names trading there including Dunelm Mill and Pets at Home.
"We understand that two of the new units are pre-let to Smyth Toy Superstore and Hobbycraft and I expect there will be strong interest in the third."
