Double celebration as new £7.4 million industrial park for
Falmouth opens its doors
A hugely successful new business hub for Falmouth has enjoyed a double celebration with an event to mark the official opening of the project and the news that all units have already been sold.
Church View Business Park, which has been delivered by Falmouth Developments, has seen the creation of new top-quality working space aimed at supporting a variety of small to medium sized businesses in the Falmouth area.
The development, on Bickland Water Road, has proved so popular that all 17 units have already been sold, to a mixture of companies spanning sectors including specialist electronics, marketing, robotics and investment.
The £7.4 million project was made possible thanks to major private sector investment by Falmouth Developments and £3.38 million of grant funding which it secured from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Programme. The EU regeneration scheme runs until 2020 and aims to deliver smart, sustainable and inclusive growth across the local area.
Cllr Bob Egerton, Cornwall Council portfolio holder for Planning and Economy, was joined by representatives from Falmouth Developments and new owners and occupiers at Church View Business Park for the opening of the development.
Cllr Egerton said: “The Church View Business Park development is a great example of how EU funding matched by private investment is supporting and encouraging new and existing businesses to grow and prosper in Cornwall.
“What is interesting is to see the range of businesses that will be working out of this new space – guitar pick-ups to robots, hand-made soaps inspired by Cornwall to engineering – reflecting the range of diverse businesses operating in Cornwall. By offering high-quality, supportive and joined-up premises, this purpose built development will nurture businesses, help create job opportunities and make a significant economic contribution towards a prosperous Cornwall.”
Steve Russell, Director of Falmouth Developments, said: “We are absolutely delighted to see the new business park open with new owners now moving in. It says a great deal about the quality of the development and market demand in the local area that all of the new units have already been sold.
“The new buildings look great and have been carefully designed to meet the needs of occupiers and we look forward to seeing the positive impact that these spaces will have for the individual businesses using them and, of course, the wider Falmouth area.”
Mark Duddridge, Chair of the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “This development will drive business growth in the Falmouth Area and its proximity to Falmouth University’s research and development expertise means we are developing the ecosystem to foster business innovators, especially in high-value digital companies, and provide the grow-on space they will need in the future.”
Church View Business Park features seven industrial buildings, split into 17 hybrid/industrial units, creating a total of 4444m2 of employment space.
Russell Dodge, Managing Director of BLS Estates, which was the sole agent on the scheme, said: “With over 30 years’ experience in Cornwall’s industrial property market this represents the first development where we sold the whole development off plan. The demand for space from local businesses has been unprecedented.”
Among the first to commit to buying units in June 2017, some nine months before construction started on site, were the directors of electronic manufacturing business, Sellectronics.
Jason O’Connell, Director of Sellectronics said: “Church View Business Park is crucial to our continued growth and will enable us to remain a Falmouth based company. Our new units will provide additional space that is much needed for our business requirements meaning we could purchase a 2nd production line which will increase our capacity and secure more jobs for the area.
“The new development is spacious and aesthetically pleasing and will provide Falmouth with a great platform for future commercial development.”
Simon Norris of A1 Appliances, occupier of one of the units, said: “A1 Appliances will be sharing a unit with Trident Plumbing, Heating and Electrical. Both of the businesses are well-established local companies to the Falmouth area and we are thrilled to be moving into the new industrial park for Falmouth. More about our plans will be revealed in the near future!”
Each unit has the capacity to be combined to create larger units, subject to individual demand, and the buildings have been constructed to BREEAM excellent standard, incorporating environmental features including sustainability of design, use of materials and renewable energy.
Sarah Leverton, Managing Director at Fastnet Marketing, another unit occupier, said: "Fastnet Marketing are very excited about our new office space at Church View Business Park, which will provide first-class facilities including a video and photography suite, a state-of-the-art meeting space and the ability to hold larger events.
"We're proud to specialise in providing marketing solutions for up-and-coming marine businesses and organisations, and we look forward to offering these additional resources to the marine community in Cornwall and beyond."
The project was built by Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group, which was appointed by Falmouth Developments as the design and build contractor for the scheme.
