Transformation of South Gloucestershire school
The transformation of a South Gloucestershire school, which will secure its future for generations to come, is under way thanks to Midas Construction.
Work has already begun on the exciting new development for Watermore Primary School, Frampton Cotterell, near Bristol.
A new school, complete with 12 classrooms, school hall, kitchen and associated areas is planned for the current site along with a relocated football pitch, multi-use play space and new car parking.
The existing school will be occupied during term time while the proposed new school is constructed. When the new development is complete, the former school building will be demolished to create the new outdoor facilities.
Midas has been on site this summer erecting hoarding to separate the school and building areas, with work set to begin on the new school and a temporary car park soon.
Derek Quinn, Executive Director at Midas Construction, said: “This is an exciting development for the community and one that will benefit countless local children. We aim to work alongside the school to keep everyone up to date on the development and help the children to learn more about their new school.
“As a Bristol-based company, we are proud to be supporting our community to grow and thrive, working with our local supply chain to provide a high-quality scheme.”
He added that Midas aimed to keep disruption and noise from the site at a minimum with hoardings and baffles set up alongside a strict timetable of works.
The school is set to be finished by winter 2019 with the completed project, including new play areas and outdoor spaces, by summer 2020.
Five apprentices will be among those working on the scheme and, with the Midas vision to give back to the communities it lives and works in, the team is also set to offer a range of other opportunities on site.
Derek added: “As well as apprenticeships, we are keen to offer fixed term employment and work experience placements for people interested in learning more about a rewarding career within the construction industry. We are passionate about supporting the continued growth of our sector and we hope to do that by helping people living near the school development to take on a range of new opportunities in the job market.”
This project continues Midas’ strong track record in the education, further and higher education sectors with the Group having delivered more than 40 education projects worth in excess of £200 million in the last three years alone.
