Award win for landmark Genesis project
The hugely successful Genesis building has been named Best New Building in the prestigious Abercrombie Awards for Plymouth.
The pioneering, ERDF and Heart of the South West LEP’s Growing Places funded project is designed to create employment and serve the local community. It comprises of flexible workspaces, meeting rooms, a full height internal atrium and Plymouth’s first living walls.
Built by Midas Construction for the Millfields Trust, the building, designed by architects Form Design features Portland stone cladding, the only vertical gardens in the South West and carved reliefs on each elevation.
As well as delivering a landmark building for Plymouth, the project provided opportunities for community involvement, work placements and apprenticeships for local residents, ensuring ownership and pride in the achievement.
Every three years Plymouth City Council hosts the Abercrombie Awards to celebrate the role of architects, designers and building companies in shaping the city. The awards, named after the architect responsible for the plan to rebuild Plymouth after the Blitz, look at a huge range of work from small conversions and projects to transform open spaces to multi-million pound housing or business projects.
