Midas to extend and refurbish office block in Bristol
Midas Construction, part of Midas Group, has set up on site in Victoria Street in Bristol. The £4m project involves extending and refurbishing a five storey office block with rear external parking facilities at 10-22 Victoria Street. The extension will increase the office space available to 46,124 ft².
This is no ordinary construction project though as Midas has undertaken to help local, disadvantaged young people by joining up with Deeley Freed and The Park in Knowle West to offer young people work experience.
Midas Construction has given local boy James a job through this worthwhile project. James is 18 and lives in Bristol; he has been welcomed onto the site and is involved with general labouring and admin for the Site Manager. He also helps out the Sub-Contractors doing a variety of different jobs as and when he is needed.
Deeley Freed has provided funds for a Level 2 Construction course at The Park as there is such a shortage of skilled labour in the construction industry and The Park will help to fill this gap.
Stephen Mundy, Divisional Manager, Midas Construction, said:
"We are delighted to be joining up with Deeley Freed and The Park to give someone work experience on the Victoria Street site. I am sure that James who is working with us will make a valuable contribution to the site and to Midas."
Since work started on the site last week, an archeological dig has unearthed a few items of interest. Amongst the find were a medieval ditch and a number of artefacts all from 1200 to 1300. A watching brief continues on the site but on more of a low key basis. The dig was undertaken by Bristol & Region Archaeological Services.
