I would recommend a placement year to all university as I have found it extremely useful. I know even after 2 months that my final year at university is going to be so much easier. The depth of the knowledge and applied skills I have already developed cannot be learned in a classroom. It's placing together all of the foundations I have learnt at University and applying them in practice, which gives me a greater understanding of the process.
The people I work with are all so helpful and I know if I ever have any problems or queries they are always be there to help. I have built great working relationships with my team and they made me feel so comfortable and welcome from day 1.

I joined Midas for my year out placement from UWE in 2015. I would 100% recommend a placement to anyone wanting to work in construction management. Experience is vital, so if you can leave education with a year or even 4 months over the summer, it all helps. You may see it as a year job but from this placement I have secured myself a trainee site management job with Midas when I graduate which is amazing. Going in to my final year not having to worry about applying for jobs is a weight of my shoulders.
In terms of the difference between class room and site is huge. I have probably learnt more in the one year of placement than my 2 years at university. Practical experience has been hugely beneficial to my learning and hopefully I will carry this into my final year to help with my grades.

Midas Group Trainee Scheme
The construction and property services industry has never been more inspiring and dynamic. We’re looking for equally inspiring and dynamic people to be part of its future… and ours. As the South West’s largest; most respected privately owned construction company, Midas Group Ltd stands out as being rather different. The difference is our people.
Each year, Midas Group engages with a new group of trainees. The selection process begins in October, with roles being advertised on this website. We aim to interview and offer candidates by the end of January, with a view of each person starting their journey with us by the end of June.
When we take on someone new at Midas, we make a commitment to you for the long term. That means investing in your career development, structured training and accreditation. We understand that the leaders of the future need to have a solid grounding, and Midas can provide this for you.
