I would 100% recommend a placement to anyone wanting to work in construction management.  Experience is vital, so if you can leave education with a year or even 4 months over the summer, it all helps. You may see it as a year job but from this placement I have secured myself a trainee site management job with Midas when I graduate which is amazing. Going in to my final year not having to worry about applying for jobs is a weight of my shoulders.

In terms of the difference between class room and site is huge. I have probably learnt more in the one year of placement than my 2 years at university. Practical experience has been hugely beneficial to my learning and hopefully I will carry this into my final year to help with my grades.

Each year, Midas Group engages with a new group of trainees.  The selection process begins in October, with roles being advertised on this website.  We aim to interview and offer candidates by the end of January, with a view of each person starting their journey with us by the end of June.

What information does Midas collect?

If you apply online for a position with Midas Group Ltd, we will use the information you provide to assist in the recruitment and selection process. Under GDPR, the general information that you supply about yourself is known as your personal data and information about any criminal convictions, ethnic origin and health, amongst other things, is referred to as 'sensitive personal data'.

Why does Midas process personal data?

In some cases, Midas needs to process data to ensure that it is complying with its legal obligations. For example, it is required to check an applicant's eligibility to work in the UK before employment starts.

The Company has a legitimate interest in processing personal data during the recruitment process and for keeping records of the process. Processing data from job applicants allows Midas to manage the recruitment process, assess and confirm a candidate's suitability for employment and decide to whom to offer a job. The Company may also need to process data from job applicants to respond to and defend against legal claims.

We will process (e.g. record and use) your personal and sensitive personal data for our internal records, in the context of equal opportunity monitoring and to assist in the selection for employment process. We will only use your information within Midas Group Ltd. However, occasionally we may need to use your personal data as part of the recruitment and selection process (i.e. DBS checks, related training or certification). Midas Group Ltd requires these third parties to comply strictly with our instructions and they will not use your personal information for their own business purposes unless you have explicitly consented to the use of your personal information in this way.

Your data will be stored in a range of different places, including on your application records, in HR management systems and on other IT systems (including email). Your personal information will be retained only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which the information was collected, or as required by law.

The Company needs to process data to take steps at your request prior to entering into a contract with you. It may also need to process your data to enter into a contract with you.

Who has access to data?

Your information may be shared internally for the purposes of the recruitment exercise. This includes members of the HR and recruitment team, interviewers involved in the recruitment process, managers in the business area with a vacancy and IT staff if access to the data is necessary for the performance of their roles.

Midas will not share your data with third parties, unless your application for employment is successful and it makes you an offer of employment. Midas will then share your data with former employers to obtain references for you, employment background check providers to obtain necessary background checks and, where necessary, the Disclosure and Barring Service to obtain necessary criminal records checks.

The Company will not transfer your data outside the European Economic Area.

How does the organisation protect data?

Midas takes the security of your data seriously. It has internal policies and controls in place to ensure that your data is not lost, accidentally destroyed, misused or disclosed, and is not accessed except by our employees in the proper performance of their duties.

For how long does the organisation keep data?

If your application for employment is unsuccessful, the organisation will hold your data on file for 12 months after the end of the relevant recruitment process. Towards the end of the 12 month period, you will be contacted and offered the opportunity to ‘opt in’ to Midas retaining your details for a further 12 months for consideration for future employment. At the end of that period, or once you withdraw your consent; your data is deleted or destroyed.

If your application for employment is successful, personal data gathered during the recruitment process will be transferred to your personnel file and retained during your employment. The periods for which your data will be held is as detailed in the Company’s Data Retention Policy.

You are under no statutory or contractual obligation to provide data to Midas during the recruitment process. However, if you do not provide the information, the Company may not be able to process your application properly or at all. By submitting your application online you will be giving your consent to Midas Group Ltd to process your personal and sensitive personal data in accordance with our Data Protection and Document Retention Policies.
