Project details
This BREEAM Very Good project comprised the design and build of a four-storey, 72-bedroom care home in Southampton. Enabling works included demolition and clearance of two buildings, asbestos removal, a reduced level dig and connection of services.
Midas constructed the building with strip foundations, a load bearing masonry superstructure and supplementary steel elements. The ground floor is a concrete slab, and the uppers are metal deck cast in in-situ slabs. The roof is a concrete single ply solution with a pitched steel extension above the penthouse. The pitched section is finished with tiles and the building’s external elevations are a mixture of brickwork and render.
The completed project offers bedrooms, café, craft room, hair and beauty salon, dining areas, kitchen and lifts. External works comprised of a car parking and extensive hard and soft landscaping, including the creation of a courtyard and a scented sensory garden.
Midas worked with the client to offer best value solutions, including a change from traditional pre-cast floors to metal deck and cast in situ slabs. The agreed amendments made to materials and programme saved the client a total of £340,000.
