Facelift for External Built Environment in Newport, South Wales

Project summary

  • Region: Wales
  • Value: £1,750,000
  • Contract length: 52 weeks
  • Completed: March 2015
  • Site features and challenges: A significant issue on this project was how to manage so many separate plots. The Project Manager devised an effective method for managing them, whereby each plot had its own ‘plot pack’ containing all the information needed for work to begin, such as photographs of the works area, services information, Health & Safety information, permits to dig, etc. This highly organised approach meant that the project went very smoothly, with all works being assigned, managed, quality checked and tracked to completion. Quality checks were done jointly by Mi-space and NCH representatives.
  • Community: The Mi-space culture and ethos is to help the local community when we can. So when we heard there was a local community need, we donated paint, rollers and brushes to the volunteers at the Pillgwenlly Millennium Centre in Newport. The Centre had been the heart of activity for young people in the area since it was set up, and was suffering from cuts in its funding. We are pleased to have helped not only the built environment, but also the social environment in Newport.

This project consisted of many individual repairs and improvements to paths, fencing, brickwork and landscaping across a wide area.
