Project Summary

This four-storey, 144-room Ibis plaza Hotel marks the completion of a second major scheme by Midas for hotel developer, Zeal Hotels. Set within Woodlands Court Business Park, in close proximity to the M5, the development represents a major investment in Bridgwater and supports the exciting growth and economic development of the local area.

Situated just 13 miles from Hinkley Point C, first guests included key workers helping to build the UK's first new nuclear power station in over 20 years. It now provides accommodation for an increasing number of business and leisure guests; playing a significant role in the exciting growth and economic development in the local area.

The building is steel transfer frame and single skin wall panels, with Euroclad Vieo standing seam cladding fitted onsite to the precast structure.

It’s the first ibis hotel in the UK to showcase the brand's new Plaza design throughout. The Plaza concept harmonises interior design with the local area; where a vivid gallery and distinctly local atmosphere throughout the pedestrian passage create a unique and memorable customer experience.

As well as conferencing facilities, the new Ibis Bridgwater also becomes the first UK Ibis hotel to feature a Keepers Kitchen and Bar, offering both hotel guests and non-residents an all-day dining experience, in a ‘local’ restaurant whose locally-sourced menus champion the region’s own produce.



The site is subject to a European Protected Species (EPS) licence due to the confirmed presence of great crested newts (GCN) in the vicinity - part of a GCN mitigation package created as part of a previous project delivered by Midas within the business park, in 2016.

Midas cleared vegetation under an ecological watching brief, during hot dry weather, and made amendments to the GCN fence to ensure that it remains impermeable. The team cut down all vegetation to agreed distances, blocked gaps and retrofitted pipes laid over the fence with pieces of polythene. A GCN licensed ecologist attended the site under the ecological watching brief to search for GCN and remove any from site prior to construction commencing.

Social Value and CPD:

Safe and on-time completion of the project during the Covid-19 pandemic reflects the excellent working relationship between Midas and Zeal Hotels, as well as the exemplary teamwork between our dedicated site team and established supply chains.

Amidst these challenges, site and community engagement teams continued to deliver impressively against the project’s Employment and Skills Plan, and exceeding their targets for workforce qualifications, training plans careers events.

In addition, Midas hosted a CPD event for apprentices and visitors from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), including a presentation by FP McCann Ltd on their cross-wall construction system and the advantages of precast concrete frame construction, a site tour and demonstration of a slab being placed.
