Midas Construction delivers project in under a year

The eagerly anticipated Wheal Northey Surgery at Bethel, St Austell has been officially opened.

The £1.9 million design and build project completed by Midas Construction commenced in early April 2009. The 51 week programme involved the demolition of old office buildings on the site of a former tin mine and the construction of a striking three-storey, traditionally built, multi-use building with 55 car parking spaces and landscaping.

Midas Group Chairman Steve Hindley CBE DL said: "The Wheal Northey Surgery Project has been a very satisfying job on a number of counts.  It was a negotiated contract where Midas met the budget and used local suppliers and where everyone involved - the surgery, the site owners and the wider community recognised the benefits and worked together well to achieve a highly successful outcome.

"On a broader scale, this project adds another piece in St Austell's regeneration jigsaw.  It is the first healthcare project in the town in over 30 years and it sees the transformation of a brownfield site into a major community amenity which is both practical and attractive.

"At Midas, we are delighted to have been part of this scheme and to continue supporting the regeneration of St Austell with effective building solutions.  We are now turning our attention to another landmark project - ‘Little Harbour', the new Children's Hospice at Porthpean Road where Midas have been appointed as contractors for this important community project, which will be completed in the summer of 2011."
