The Project was a remodel of an existing Sainsbury's store that was carried out in a live store environment, and the store remained trading throughout the duration. Much of the works in the store was carried out during the evenings while the store was closed. All works to the sales floor, including removal and reinstatement of existing ceilings and all services associated with the reconfiguration of the sales floor layout, was carried out of hours, and will be co-ordinated with the store management team's nightly re-stocking operations. Daily meetings were held with the Store Retail lead to ensure as little disruption to Sainsbury's night staff as possible. Approx 80% of the work will be carried out behind hoarded off areas in line with Sainsbury's policy.
Works consisted (amongst others) of major refurbishment to London Colney Spec. A total refit to Mechanical and Electrical systems. A new sprinkler system will be installed. A bakery, Delicatessen, Meat and Fish counter were constructed. A back wall line push will increase the sales floor area. An extended warehouse with chillers freezers and dock levellers was constructed as well as a dedicate goods on line. All necessary safety systems were in place and ensured the safety of the workforce and Sainsbury's night staff.
The duration of the works was carried out over a 19 week period.
