New Housing for Exeter

( Last Updated: 27-10-2009 )

The development in Lancelot Road in the Beacon Heath area of Exeter is a small step in the right direction to answering the need for affordable housing in Exeter.

The city is indicative of the entire South West, in as much as there is a short fall of affordable housing, as a result of external upward pressures on house prices.

Lancelot Road is a small development being delivered by Magna Housing Association, Exeter City Council and Mi-space (the affordable housing company of the Midas Group).  The scheme itself is made up of five flats and one three bedroom family home.  The development is being built to Code three of the Code for Sustainable Homes, in the middle of an existing community on a piece of steep, once derelict land.

Dillies Baldwin, Head of Social Inclusion at Exeter City Council, said:

"I have been encouraging the development of these small city infill sites by Housing Associations for some years now.  This particular project built by

Mi-space will help alleviate the waiting list for housing in Exeter which currently stands at approximately 6,000 households."

The project is due to be finished at the end of this year and is achieving excellent Considerate Constructors scores with great effort being made by the Mi-space site manager Les Leach, not to disrupt the lives of neighbours and the local community.

Jeremy Dymond, Operations Manager for Mi-space:

"We are absolutely delighted to be working Magna Housing Association and Exeter City Council on this project.  Infill sites make for challenging construction projects but they are without doubt one of the best ways of delivering low impact, sustainable housing for the local community."
