The Romsey office of Midas Construction has announced work in progress in the Hampshire and Dorset region to have gone past the £20 million mark.

The award of the £1.8m contract to build a new mortuary building for Bournemouth Borough Council brings the award-winning construction group's current contract value to £20.3m in the region with the new production, test facility and offices for defence sector business Cobham plc at Wimborne contributing the lion's share at just under £10m.

Other major projects include a £2.1 million new two storey operating theatre at Wimborne, a £1.7m research & development unit for Andover based manufacturer Bioquell, a £1.7m new boarding block for Stanbridge Earls School in Romsey and a £640k accommodation block at RAF Odiham.

Midas has also recently completed the new £2.6m training centre for the Royal Yachting Association at Portland which will figure in the 2012 Olympic yachting events.  The company has also won a place on the Basingstoke & North Hampshire NHS Framework worth a potential £15m over the next three years.

Midas Divisional Director Paul Strachan said: "It's early days to say that these business wins mark the end of the impact of the recession but it is very encouraging that so many diverse organizations are calling up our services right now.

"We are currently involved with businesses and organizations in the healthcare, defence, education, manufacturing, public sector and leisure sectors with much more in the pipeline.

"With a policy of sourcing materials, suppliers, sub-contractors and employees locally, I'm really delighted that we are able to make a positive impact on the local economy and on the communities where we are working."
