Children's Hospice South West (CHSW) has announced that Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group, has been appointed to build the new children's hospice, Little Harbour, near St Austell, Cornwall.
Work will commence on the sixty week contract this spring with the aim of opening the new children's hospice by the end of 2011, offering a range of planned respite, palliative, emergency, and end of life care for life-limited children as well as care and support for the whole family.
Midas has offices across the South West including Plymouth and Indian Queens in Cornwall working closely with local supply chain partners and using local expertise and knowledge.
Steve Hindley, Chairman of the Midas Group says:
"We are absolutely delighted to be awarded this most important community project.
"Everyone involved with this wonderful charity and its Precious Lives Appeal has worked so hard to raise the funds necessary to achieve their ambition of building a third children's hospice for the South West. We greatly admire their resolve, commitment and vision and we are determined to deliver a landmark building that the whole community can be proud of and one that will support the work of Children's Hospice South West into the future."
Features of Little Harbour will include a main living area; a messy play room for carefree creativity; a multi sensory room with lights, sounds, and textures to soothe and calm; a soft play area for safe, trouble-free fun; and a jacuzzi for relieving stiff joints and muscle spasms.
The facility will have six beds for sick children and comfortable accommodation for other family members. It will also feature a three story tower reminiscent of a lighthouse which will provide panoramic views across the Clay Country and out towards the sea.
Eddie Farwell, Children's Hospice South West Co-Founder and Chief Executive, said:
"We have been very impressed with what we have seen of Midas Construction so far and look forward to working with them to create our vision for Little Harbour."
