Midas win school contract

( Last Updated: 03-05-2011 )

Wokingham Borough Council has appointed Midas Construction to manage the pre-construction activities and to build the new extensions to primary schools at Coombes School in Arborfield and St Nicholas School in Hurst.

These two important projects follow on from the contractors work at Hillside Primary School in Lower Early, Reading.

Midas Construction's Divisional Director, Paul Strachan said: "We commenced work on a major extension to Hillside Primary School last summer and, working closely with the Buildings Unit of WBC Property Services and the school management team, we have implemented an approach to the project that reduced the anticipated programme duration by half.

"This greatly reduced the inconvenience to the school and its users during construction and ensured the extended facilities will be completed and available for the 2011 September school term.

"As a direct result of this proactive and innovative approach we have now been engaged by Wokingham Borough Council to start work on these two new school extension projects both of which are required to be delivered ready for the start of the September 2011 term.

"This will entail developing fast track solutions that make the best use of off site pre fabrication technology to ensure the extended facilities are delivered to programme, quality and budget."

In December 2010, Daniel Hills, a pupil at Hillside Primary School, received a new mountain bike from Midas Construction as his prize for his winning design of a robot to assist in the building work.  The Midas team is also planning to work with the children at Hillside Primary School to bury a time capsule in the New Year and will implement similar initiatives as the two new projects progress.
