Midas Construction has sponsored retired farmer Gordon Mortimer's 15 mile marathon on his mobility scooter raising funds for the BBC Radio Devon Air Ambulance Appeal.
The 15 mile route took Gordon from Exmouth to the Turf Locks via Lympstone, Exton, Darts Farm, Countess Wear and the Swing Bridge in Exeter requiring three batteries to make the 5-6 hour trip. He has already collected £2000 with more funds coming in.
87 year-old Gordon, whose family has farmed around Powderham for generations, was struck down with polio in the 1950s but has led an active working life ever since until his original symptoms recently returned.
He said: "I wanted to do something for Devon Air Ambulance as the service is so important to country people. The distance is around 12 miles but because I need to take cycle tracks and footpaths, we think the final distance will be more like 15 miles.
"I'd like to thanks Midas for their support and everyone who has helped me plan for this event or donated to the cause."
