Midas start work on Road Safety Centre in Cardiff

( Last Updated: 06-01-2009 )

Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group, has started work on a £1.2m contract comprising the construction of a new two storey extension to the administrative block and creation of a new Road Safety Centre in Cardiff. The new Road Safety Centre has been commissioned to replace and improve upon the facilities provided by the existing Briardene Road Safety Centre.

The Midas team started on site last month and aim to complete the works during spring 2009.

The foundations for the new building were installed many years ago, which means the project can move to the second stage of the process and Midas can start the main building works. The Centre will still be open to the local community whilst the works continue until completion.

Dave Haskell, Director, Midas Construction, said:

"We are delighted to have won the contract for the new Road Safety Centre in Cardiff and look forward to working with the City & County of Cardiff Council on the project. Whilst we continue with the construction works at the site, the Centre's full facilities will still be available to the local community in Cathays."

The County Council's Road Safety Unit is situated just off North Road in Cardiff. It has an excellent reputation across Wales for its' road safety education, training, publicity and School Crossing Patrol services.

The Road Safety Team provide a comprehensive level of support to schools and colleges in the county, and give advice on a wide variety of training programmes and road safety initiatives, details of which are published periodically in the road safety newsletter - Road Safety Matters. They provide a wide range of facilities and are open to the general public during normal working hours.
