Midas raises £16,000 for ChildLine Centre

( Last Updated: 26-03-2010 )

The Midas Group has handed over a cheque for over £16,000 to the NSPCC to support their South West Child's Voice Appeal which is raising money to help fund the ChildLine Centre in Exeter

The company responded to a challenge from Dragons' Den celebrity and successful entrepreneur Deborah Meaden to get behind the NSPCC's appeal and raise at least £5000 for the Childline Centre which receives calls from throughout the South West including the Bristol area.

The result was the Midas Group organizing a grand draw which raised over £16,000 for ChildLine, a service founded by Esther Rantzen in 1986.

Steve Hindley CBE DL, Chairman of the Midas Group said: "ChildLine  is the UK's free, confidential helpline for children and young people. Trained volunteers are on hand to provide advice and support, by phone and online, 24 hours a day but it takes a lot of money to operate and continuous fundraising is essential.

"This is a very worthwhile cause and we are delighted to have made this contribution. We generated all the prizes before the draw so every £1 ticket sold meant £1 going the ChildLine.

"We would also like to thank all the other individuals and businesses who supported this initiative in kind, which included designing and printing the posters and 20,000 tickets.

The draw took place at the ChildLine Centre in Exeter on Friday 19th March with radio and TV personality Judi Spiers picking the winning ticket for the £1000 top prize.  Other prizes included a 40" TV, a laptop and the latest Samsung 360 phone,

NSPCC Fundraiser Carrie Cardale added: "I would like to thank Midas for their fantastic fundraising efforts.  The money raised by them and all the Dragon's Challengers will make a real difference to the lives of children in the South West"
