Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group, has recently completed the £5.3m Territorial Army (TA) Centre in Crickhowell for the Reserve Forces' and Cadets Association for Wales.
This new centre replaces a number of dated facilities with one multipurpose unit. Midas has successfully turned around this dilapidated site at Cwrt-y-Gollen into a centre of excellence for the TA, benefiting the reserve forces and cadets as well as the local community.
The Centre will be used by the Welsh Territorial Army and Army Cadet Force, well equipped with educational, training, catering and sleeping accommodation. It is ideally located for the cadets to undertake training in the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons.
Among its many uses, the Centre will be home to the Territorial Army 203 Welsh Field Hospital which is to be deployed to Afghanistan to provide life-saving medical services. The medical unit will use this new purpose built centre to train and prepare for the undoubtedly tough task ahead.
Dave Haskell, Divisional Director, Midas Construction Wales, said:
"Midas is extremely proud to be associated with this "local" project. We have been able to deliver a purpose built, "fit for use" training establishment which will support both TA Cadets and the TA 203 Welsh Medics, on their support duties throughout the world, for years to come.
Brian Williams BSc MBIFM MILT, Head of Estates and Facilities Management of the TA, said:
"I am pleased to say that the professional approach by all Midas staff, especially their site management team, contributed hugely to the success of this project. Their attitude to safety, quality and customer satisfaction was, in my extensive experience, second to none. Their proactive approach made a significant contribution to ensuring costs were contained without compromise on quality or time and the project was completed within programme and within budget."
