Midas Construction has started Phase One of a 64 one and two bedroom apartment scheme near Fistral Beach, on Newquay's Pentire headland, on behalf of Gwithian Developments Limited.
Located on the site of the former Tregarn Hotel, and flanked on the west by the beautiful Gannel estuary and Europe's premier surfing venue to the east, the project is designed to provide a sustainable community both in terms of the development itself and the area of Pentire as a whole.
Designed by Newquay based architects Artchart with post contract design by Plymouth based architects Pearn & Procter, the scheme is targeting the first time buyers market and offers a total of 64 residential apartments with a mix of 17 one-bedroom and 47 two bedroom flats. 19 of the apartments will be available to local buyers at heavily discounted prices. Each apartment will have an outside space in the form of balcony or patio.
Midas Construction's Divisional Director, Mike O'Neill said: "We will be applying tried and tested sustainable principles including minimal energy use, passive solar gain, insulation values that will surpass the current mandatory standards and energy efficient appliances.
"This is a significant site and the developers have taken great care to ensure that the design is in keeping with its location in terms of scale and mass and avoids privacy issues, direct overlooking and shadow cast.
"Work on Phase One is due to complete in June 2012 and, as members of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, Midas Construction will take every opportunity to inform local residents of building activity and progress and to do all we can to minimize disruption during the construction period."
