Midas Finalist wins National Construction Award

( Last Updated: 29-10-2009 )

Midas is delighted to announce that Justin Penhallurick from Midas Construction in Cornwall achieved the Silver Award at The Chartered Institute of Building Awards last night.

Justin Penhallurick The Construction Manager of the Year Awards are the construction industry's most celebrated awards evening, the 2009 awards ceremony took place last night in the Great Room at the Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London.  Justin was awarded a Silver award in the following category,

New building/refurbishment projects over £2 to £5m.

Project - Princess Alexandra Maternity Wing, Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust in Truro.

It is the only industry awards that celebrate individual management achievement; they are not for projects, processes, products or design. They are for the people.

Justin's hospital project might best be described as a bed of nails. As well as demanding the budget, quality and programme superlatives that apply to every project, the scheme posed formidable technical challenges; the users had real clout and there were many stakeholders.  Despite the ever increasing workload this imposed, Justin demonstrated a can-do mentality that motivated the entire team.

Alan Hope, Chief Executive of Midas Group, said:

"I am delighted that Justin has been awarded one of these prestigious, national awards for his work at Treliske Hospital in Truro.  Overall the Group had three finalists in the Awards which we are very proud of."

This year's Awards were the largest to date; in March the CIOB received 58% more entries than ever before and it's now been announced that they have a total 115 finalists in 12 categories.
