The Wales office of Midas Construction has won two significant public sector contracts awarded by Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board (ABM University Health Board) worth almost £4 million.
Work will start in September on a £1.9 million refurbishment of an existing coal store at Swansea's Morriston Hospital to provide offices and a workshop while a further £2m contract to build Pencoed Day Care Centre at Bridgend involves the construction of a new 1165m² two story surgery with a single storey wing.
Midas Construction's Divisional Director in Wales david Haskell, said:
"As a Group, Midas has a depth of experience in medically related construction contracts and has successfully delivered hospital refurbishments and new build surgeries across the South and South West of England and in Wales.
"Each of these new contracts has exciting challenges. Morriston is one of the biggest hospitals in Wales and this extensive work has to be undertaken in a ‘live' hospital environment with the minimum disruption to staff and patients.
"The external works at Pencoed Day Care Centre include incoming access road, car park, footpaths, retaining walls, external deck area, cycle store and landscaping. The aim is to deliver a building that will achieve a ‘very good' BREEAM rating, the industry standard of environmental assessment for buildings."
Both projects begin in September 2010 with Pencoed Day Care Centre due for completion in June 2011 followed by the Morriston Hospital project in September 2011.
