Midas Construction completes three Cornwall contracts

( Last Updated: 18-04-2011 )

Three very different Cornwall projects undertaken by Midas Construction have been completed within a few weeks of each other.

Peter Turner Project Manager at Duchy NurseriesAn £830,000 new tearoom and shop for the Duchy of Cornwall Nurseries near Lostwithiel, a £500,000 refurbishment of a church hall for Newquay Christian Centre and the construction of a £400,000 pre-school building at Treleigh Community Primary School near Redruth demonstrate the diversity of work undertaken by the Indian Queens based office of the award-winning contractor.

Mike O'Neill, Director for Midas Construction Ltd. in Devon and Cornwall, said: "Each of these projects provided challenges and each were very rewarding for the Midas teams involved.

Andy White Senior Site Manager at Treleigh School"The new pre-school project at Treleigh involved demolishing a redundant classroom which had to be accomplished during the school holidays with the new building ready for the start of the next term, while the Turnaround Centre at Newquay Christian Centre provided many of the problems you can expect when refurbishing older buildings.

"The new tea room and shop at the Duchy of Cornwall Nurseries really has the ‘wow' factor and will undoubtedly increase visitor numbers dramatically.  It's a timber framed building using wood entirely from the Duchy Estates which is also used as the fuel for the wood pellet burner.  Larch cladding, oak posts and joinery, newly made cob walls behind lime render and a cedar shingle roof are just some of the stand out features.

"The Prince of Wales has taken a personal interest in the project's progress with his sister-in-law, Annabelle Elliot, providing the interior design.  It's a fantastic looking building located specifically to over look the ruins of Restormel Castle."

Midas Construction has a number of on-going construction projects in Cornwall including the multi million pound Heartlands regeneration scheme in Pool, Camborne, a £1.5m contract to restore Falmouth's historic listed Gyllingdune Gardens and a £1.6m, 33 bedroom hotel extension at St. Austell Brewery's County Arms at Threemilestone in Truro
