Midas was taken on by Holiday Inn to design and build a new £8.5 million 134-bed hotel, including 10 suites, in the city centre.
The three-star hotel included enhanced facilities compared to similar competitor brands, such as ‘comfort cooled’ guestrooms and six conference/seminar suites.
The resulting eight-storey building provided 25,000 sq ft of A3/D2 space on the ground and first floors, with the remaining six floors taken up with the hotel accommodation.
The work included creating a service yard and off-street parking for the hotel’s exclusive use, as well as forming openings at the base for shop fronts and glazing.
The building is steel framed with a ground bearing ground floor slab, and composite profiled steel/insitu concrete suspended first and second floors. The elevations are constructed in blue engineering brick with insulated cavity and blockwork inner leaf.
