A speculative development by construction company Midas has provided Cornish firm Furniture World with its ideal warehouse at Cardew Industrial Estate.
Furniture World, a family-run business which has four stores across Cornwall, has swapped two smaller warehouses in Redruth and St Austell to create a new headquarters at the newly-built unit on Cardew Industrial Estate in Redruth.
The move comes after the furniture and carpet retailer outgrew its previous premises. The relocation to the 11,000 sq ft warehouse has created two new jobs within the company with the prospect of more. It has also led to improved customer delivery times by a number of weeks.
The new property is one of four business and industrial units within the 46,000 sq ft development. The premises, funded and constructed by Midas, with grant aid from the European Objective One programme, form an important part of the regeneration in the Redruth area.
Ryan Long, a partner at Furniture World, said: "The move has allowed us to hold much more stock and also assemble furniture, which in turn has enabled us to further reduce lead times on our furniture. We now have the ability to deliver items like beds in a matter of two or three days throughout the whole of Cornwall. Being able to improve upon an already high-quality service has really pleased our customers and the feedback we've been getting has been great motivation for all of our 30 staff members."
Ryan continued: "The premises that Midas has built are fantastic and meet our needs perfectly. We were looking for a unit like this throughout the whole of Cornwall and we really struggled to find anything even remotely as suitable as these premises. As soon as we found out that they were being built, we moved very quickly to secure the site."
Terry Murch, divisional director of Midas, said: "It is brilliant that these premises are helping Cornish businesses to develop and grow. The lack of premises on this scale across the county has meant that the take-up has been astounding and we now only have one more unit left at Cardew.
"Developments like this and the one at Barncoose Industrial Estate, where there are only three units remaining, are at the forefront of the regeneration in the area. West Cornwall will continue to benefit economically as the businesses move in and maintain their growth."
