Midas Construction has been awarded the two phases of the £30m development of Penwith College in Penzance.
Midas Construction has been on site at Penwith since January this year to construct six new buildings in two phases to provide accommodation for students at the college. The first phase will be completed in December 2009 and the second phase; and therefore completion of the project, will be in December 2010.
The project comprises the flagship Zennor building which will house a multi-purpose theatre, a training kitchen, music practice rooms, hair and beauty salons and additional teaching rooms. The Porthcurno building also part of the first phase, will have facilities for sport, science laboratories and further teaching accommodation. Treneere Manor will receive a conversion of its current state to provide upgraded facilities on the recently acquired land by the College.
In addition a sustainability programme is in place to include ground source heat pumps, solar water heating and rainwater harvesting.
The build replaces all existing facilities with the exception of the Nanjizal building which will receive a light refurbishment.
Alan Hope, Chief Executive, Midas Group, said:
"This is an outstanding project for Midas to be involved with and we are looking forward to building one of the best educational facilities in the South West".
