Midas Construction has now begun work on ‘Little Harbour', the new Childrens Hospice South West (CHSW) in St Austell, Cornwall, just over two and a half years after the charity launched its Precious Lives Appeal to raise the £5m project costs.
Little Harbour is the third Children's Hospice South West facility in the ergion with other special hospices in the region located at Little Bridge House near Barnstaple and Charlton Farm near Bristol. It will provide a range of planned respite, palliative, emergency, and end of life care for life-limited children.
Steve Hindley CBE DL, Chairman of the Midas Group said: "Everyone at Midas Group greatly admires the resolve, commitment and vision of the CHSW team at bringing about this project and we are determined to deliver a landmark building for them that the whole community can be proud of and one that will support the work of the Children's Hospice South West into the future.
Corporate Social Responsibility is a key driver for Midas touching upon our people, our supply chain and the communities in which we work. Working alongside CHSW, we see ourselves as part of a hard working team, part of the community whose objectives are sustainable regeneration, and part of the local and regional economy.
"Construction projects of this type have a significant impact on the local economy directly creating jobs often for the lower skilled and young workers who have relatively few alternative opportunities.
"Wealso aim to contribute to the local economy by ensuring that all materials, suppliers and sub-contractors are locally sourced wherever practicable and although it is early days in the procurement process, we have already placed a number of contracts with Cornish businesses.
The Precious Lives Appeal target is £5 million and £3.5 million has been raised to date.
