Cobham Plc (Project STAR)

Brook Road, Wimbourne, Dorset

Project: Construction of a complex HQ for Cobham Plc in Dorset.

Project STAR comprises the construction of a bespoke Fuel Pod Test Rig facility, a new 4,000m2 office block for Cobham Mission Equipment (CME) as their UK Headquarters, the renovation of the existing factory 2 to provide 3,635m2 of production facilities inclusive of 2,365m2 of associated connecting offices, all of which will be served by new/adapted car parking/ covered cycle stands, and surrounded by landscaped areas.

Originally secured via a two stage partnered Design and Build procurement route following a year long postponement, Midas negotiated the heavily revised scheme on a one to one ‘open book' basis. Early engagement of the supply chain was essential in providing optimum prices for work packages, thus providing cost certainly for the client.

Midas developed the scheme with the client and appointed design team to secure three separate planning applications, overlap the commencement of construction activities and manage the budget and procurement process to release funds to enhance the finished facilities.

Prior to operations commencing, full surveys of existing structures were implemented, resulting in extensive asbestos removal and demolition activities. The site contained areas of fuel storage tanks, which required the adoption of measures to deal with Hydrocarbon contamination through specialist supply partners.
