The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) building being constructed at Derrford for ReSound Health is a project that has been in development for approximately three years. The stake holders for the project, ReSound Health, Plymouth Primary Care Trust and Midas Construction have worked collaboratively on various versions and sites in Plymouth to deliver this facility. The project is being delivered through the Local Improvement Financial Trust (LIFT) initiative as a turn key Design & Build Contract.
The building structure is traditional load bearing masonry with timber trussed rafters, with under floor heating and specialised glazing provisions, as the building design has to address ligature risk within the patient areas. The building design has been managed by Midas design manager to ensure efficiency in the building wherever possible that doesn't compromise the clinical or aesthetic needs of the end users.
The building has to achieve BREEAM Excellent as part of the LIFT funding requirements. This was accomplished by the introduction of energy efficiency throughout the building, by increased thermal insulation properties and in using a pellet fed Bio-mass boiler supported by a modest Solar-Thermal array. The building design has been developed around the BREEAM requirement from concept stage, and it has therefore been relatively easy to design in the required elements to achieve the required Excellent.
